The RCCG Winnipeg’s Story – A Journey of Faith, Growth, and Divine Providence

The story of RCCG Winnipeg (RCCG – International Christian Centre), the pioneer RCCG parish in Manitoba, is one of unwavering faith, perseverance, and God’s guiding hand. From humble beginnings to a thriving community today, the church’s journey reflects God’s faithfulness and the power of belief in every step.

The Beginning at 2791 Pembina Hwy

RCCG Winnipeg’s journey began at 2791 Pembina Hwy, the site where the Bank of Montreal Fort Richmond branch now stands. It was here that the church first gathered, dedicated to spreading the Gospel and serving the community. In 2002, the church was asked to relocate by the property owner, marking the start of many moves that would define its history.

The Holy Ghost Zone

The church’s next home was at 2989 Pembina Hwy, a building that was eventually leased to a nightclub called Twilight Zone. However, led by Pastor Joseph Okunnu, the congregation lovingly renamed it the Holy Ghost Zone—a place where the Spirit of God was welcomed to move, even in an unconventional setting.

Growth and the move to 50 Barnes Street

As RCCG Winnipeg continued to grow, it relocated in January 2003 to 50 Barnes Street, where it rented space from the World Wide Bible Church. This period marked a time of transition, but God’s blessings continued, and by October 2003, the church moved back to 2791 Pembina Hwy, as the World Wide Bible Church began using the space for their Sunday morning services.

51 Richfield Avenue and God’s continued provision

In April 2005, the church relocated to 51 Richfield Avenue, where it rented from the Bible Church of God. This move symbolized the church’s unwavering dedication to God’s call, but it wasn’t long before God had even bigger plans for RCCG Winnipeg.

A Miraculous Move to 2735 St. Mary’s Road

In one of the most defining moments of RCCG Winnipeg’s history, God provided a property at 2735 St. Mary’s Road—a vast 11.5-acre plot with both residential and church space. During renovations, the church temporarily gathered in a Chinese restaurant nearby, but despite the challenges, the congregation remained steadfast. They prayed fervently, set up chairs, and worked tirelessly, showing their devotion and trust in God’s provision.

Establishing Canaan Land – Home, at Last

The final chapter in this remarkable journey brought the church to Canaan Land, a place of destiny and promise. Even as the new auditorium was being renovated, members of RCCG Winnipeg continued to serve with joy, wearing casual clothes to church, then pitching in to clean and prepare the space afterward. It was a demonstration of their dedication to building a place of worship that reflected the faithfulness of God.

After many moves, many prayers, and countless acts of faith, RCCG Winnipeg found its permanent home at Canaan Land—a place that stands as a testament to the faithfulness and provision of God. Through every transition, every challenge, and every step, God has been faithful to His church, guiding and sustaining it through each phase of its journey.

A Legacy of Faith

Today, RCCG Winnipeg stands as a thriving community of believers, a testament to God’s faithfulness and the steadfast devotion of its members. The journey may have been long and challenging, but each move, each step of faith, has brought the church closer to fulfilling its mission of reaching the lost and serving the community.

As we look back on the incredible journey that led us to Canaan Land, we stand in awe of God’s goodness and faithfulness. The road was not always easy, but through it all, God has proven that His plans are greater than anything we could have imagined. At RCCG Winnipeg, we continue to grow in faith, trusting that God’s purpose for this community is still unfolding.
